Summer Reads!

So, what to read for the summer vacays, when you're laying by the pool, ocean, or just chillaxin' at night?

Well, my new short story, Brooklyn, 1830 is out now on Smashwords and Kindle.  It's not light summer fare, despite the fact that it features children -- there's ghosts and a very not nice person in it.  Suffice it to say that the ending is satisfying, but it's horror, there's no doubt!

Speaking of horror, I've just finished reading The House On Blackstone Moore by fellow Vamplit author Carole Gill.  I LOVE The Woman In White by Wilkie Collins, and this novel starts out very much like it -- a great, gothic atmosphere.  In this day and age when many vampires roam high school hallways (perish the thought -- whatever happened to playing hooky and riding up and down the Santa Carla Boardwalk all night?!?!), it's great to see a return to the original, creepy setting of vampire tales -- lonely houses.  There is a romance, but this is not Twilight at all.  It explores deeper themes such as child abuse, and how mental illness in women was treated pre-21st Century (not very well, mind you!).

And another story I've been meaning to blog about for 3 months now --  Ring of Lies by Rachel Lynne.  I've admitted many times before that the Romance genre just doesn't grab me, but this has more than a hero trying to win the heart of the heroine.  It's smart, the heroine is very likable, and there's a mystery -- kudos to Ms. Lynne for delving into my favorite genre in which to read!  Definitely a good one for the summer!

And now, I'll leave you with one of my favorite summer songs:
