Summer Reading Program!!!!

Okay, so I know this posting is a month late in coming, but hey -- better late than never!  And you still have a good 2 months to get some serious reading done.

My publisher, Vamplit, is hosting a summer reading challenge, in which Vamplit titles (of course) are featured, including Release.  We are shooting for a September date for Return, so hopefully that can make the tail-end of the list ;-)

The purpose of the Reading Challenge?  To get our names out there -- basically, you buy a book, pay with a Tweet or Post, and then give a short review of the book when you've finished it.

Not bad, huh?

And because I mentioned RETURN, well -- here's a peek at the cover.  Originally, my awesome brother did the cover artwork, but it was lost last summer (laptop troubles), so Sue Midliack stepped up and produced this wonderful gem:

Children's/YA Books -- Where It's At?!?!

So, I've got Pretty Little Liars on tonight (yes, guilty pleasure), and what do I see?  A James Patterson commercial.  He's hawking his latest murder novel, but he's also advertising --- a children's book.

Yes. Specifically, a Middle Grader's book.

Way.

I've been saying this since the recession hit (and I joined the publishing industry) -- in hard times, parents will cut their budgets, but will still spend $$ so their kids can read.

So what does it say about the publishing industry, $$, and the Big NY Publishing Houses if world-reknowned author James Patterson joins the ranks of the kids' authors?  Are adult book sales that low?  Are NY profits not what they should be?  Or he just wanted to try a new market?  Enquiring minds, and things that make you go hmmmm...
